What personal qualities help or hinder a person's growth?

In the short story that I read (A&P), Sammy put himself in an unnecesary position to impress a few girls.  He decide to quit his job at A&P because he wanted to help and draw attention away from the three girls in bikinis.  It was a stupid decision to make because he gained nothing from quitting and like he said at the end, ''I felt how hard the world was going to be to me hereafter.''  Sammy has to think about the possible outcomes that could happen before he does something idiotic.  The only thing he cared about was impressing the three girls and they didn't even wait for him outside.  He should have thought about how dissapointed him parents were going to be after he quit or how he wouldn't have any spending money until he gets a new job.  In conclusion you could say that Sammy could have either kept things the way they are by not quitting or he could have quit and sufferedthe consequences.  Well as you can clearly see, he made the wrong choice. He just has to remember to assess the situation before hand.

In this picture, there is a boy who is regretful of an action he has done.  Many of us have been in this situation where we don't feel quite right inside because we made a wrong decision.  I chose this picture to connect to the short story I read, A&P, because when the main character quits his job at the end, hoping to impress these girls in  bikinis, he is regretful of quitting and he didn't get the girls.  In life we are going to have to make many decisions, some hard, some easy, but we shouldnt inconvenience ourselves just because you think something is cool.  We should go with our gut instinct, not like what the main character did.
